Week 5 - Client Brief

This week we were to make an add for Mad Mack's, similar to those out-there Crazy Clarks adds. I wanted to change the colour and animate the text from the original PSD but becase it was a set file thing it wouldn't let me unless I went and created the text myself. It took me about the whole lesson to pretty much get no where really. Just a lot of frustration on why things weren't doing what I wanted them to be doing. I ended up saying after class to try and fix it but it didn't work. So I decided to just start from scratch and create the text myself. All I really did was change the background colours and the size and positioning of the text. Thats all that I had.

The video below is what I had worked on at home. I watched the video tute which deffinately showed me what to do. This time, it worked much better because I wasn't trying to do too many things in it. It deffinately needed to be a lot faster but I think just as an exercis it works just fine.

Week 4 - Temporol Identity

This week I really enjoyed the tute because I thought my piece went quite well. I think I have about 15 seconds. Its not finished yet, but almost. We learnt the masking technique, how to make things come out from underneath other images. It was really helpful. Im very pleased with the outcome :)

Week 3 - Type in Motion

In this tute, I ACTUALLY managed to do something in After Effects. It took me a while, about half an hour maybe with Peter explaining everything to me, which was really helpful. I think I did about 3 seconds of typography with the audio, which was DISTURBINGLY HIDIOUSELY ANNOYING. It took a while to get the text to fit with the audio, especially when its quite fast.

I was still a bit confused with how things worked, but much better than the first tute. I came home a tried to re-do this piece myself with a different audio piece; Linkin Park's 'Hands Held High'. I think I did about another 4 seconds or more. I much preferred this to the one I did in class. I actually got the text to run smoother with the audio. Its not finished yet, but I think I'll just upload what I have later....hopefully. If not, I'm getting better with using After Effects with positioning and timing and all. It really helped with the text :)

Week 2 - Time, Space, Form pt. 2

This is my montage from the second part of the first exercise. I've used the image of the grandma and made it a surrealistic piece. Where else would you see a granny in a boat in the desert with a jumping dolphin and an airplane flying over? I quite like the image by itself. It has a sense of depth where the airplane is smaller because it's further away and the granny in the boat is close in the foreground. I think it also gives it some motion just by the angling of the dolphin and the airplane.

Here I've just used positioning, rotations and scaling.

Week 2 - Time, Space, Form

This was the first tute session so I was REALLY confused with what I was supposed to be doing. I knew how to use Photoshop, but majorly clueless when it came to After Effects. This is the first time I've ever used the progam. I hardly did anything for the lesson; although, I did do something in Photoshop, but never made it to After Effects. I basically spent the rest of the lesson looking at images on Flickr. So basically, I didn't actually learn much at all. Not to mention that Luke, you were actually talking really fast and some of us were just like "uhhhhh?????" But anyways, first tute. I made my Photoshop image thing :)

It actually looks like the granny is going "oooh". Now, she's either doing it to the airplane in the sky, OR to that awesome pie shot further down the branch. I'd go for the pie shot :D I basically just played around with layering and changng th modes. Also with lighting effects and opacity.
